View exchange over arranging fair polls in Mymensingh

The local administration has held a view exchange to ensure a free, fair, and impartial election similar to the national elections, the Mymensingh City Corporation.
Anticipated to be more fiercely contested than national elections, discussions are underway on the cooperation of administrative and law enforcement forces to prevent violence and uphold the election code of conduct.

Ahead of the 2024 Mymensingh City Corporation Election, a dedicated session, led by Umme Salma Tanzia, the Divisional Commissioner of Mymensingh, on Monday convened to deliberate on ensuring a fair and peaceful election using Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and maintaining law and order.

The divisional commissioner said as the polling stations will be situated in educational institutions, he has instructed for enhancements in the overall environment, such as improving facilities like washrooms and drinking water. With the use of the EVM system for voting, he has directed the Power Development Board to ensure uninterrupted power supply throughout the election period.
Mymensingh Range DIG Md. Shah Abid Hossain, Deputy Inspector General of Ansar and VDP Dr. Mohammad Saifur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Mymensingh City Corporation Md Yusuf Ali, Deputy Commissioner Didar Alam Mohammad Maksud Chowdhury, Superintendent of Police Masum Ahmed Bhuiya, among others, were present.
The Election Commission will be conducting the election for the positions of Mayor, Councilor of Reserved Constituency, and Councilor of General Constituency of Mymensingh City Corporation using EVM on March 9, 2024.

The total number of eligible voters for the Mymensingh City Corporation election amounts to 336,496 individuals. Among them, there are 163,832 male voters and 172,655 female voters. Additionally, there are nine Hijra voters. The election will be facilitated through 128 potential polling stations and 990 polling booths. Furthermore, there are 11 reserved wards and 33 general wards.

It is noteworthy that municipal elections will also take place in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh on the same date.
