Voting underway in Naogaon-2
Voting for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election is underway in Naogaon-2 constituency which was suspended earlier due to the death of a candidate.
Voting at 124 centres of the constituency, comprising Dhamoirhat and Patnitala upazilas in the district, began at 8:00 am on Monday (February 12) and it will continue till 4:00 pm in the afternoon.
Awami League nominated candidate Md Shahiduzzaman Sarker, Jatiya Party’s Advocate Tofazzal Hossain and two independent candidates, HM Akhtarul Alam and Md Mehdi Mahmud Reza, are vying for the polls.
Since the morning, scores of voters started thronging the poll centres. The presence of women voters in the centers was noticeable since morning. However, the male voter turnout was relatively low.
Election Commission Deputy Secretary Md Atiar Rahman told the media that the commission has completed all types of preparation to hold a free, fair and participatory election in the constituency.
Meanwhile, police, RAB, BGB and Ansar personnel are performing their duties in the center and outside the center to hold the polling smoothly and peacefully.
Thirty-one units of police, APBn, and Ansar, as well as seven strike forces, have been deployed to ensure security in the poll centres. Moreover, four RAB teams and eight BGB platoons, along with the district’s executive and judicial magistrates, have been assigned to oversee the by-poll.
