We don't want to get into politics: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that they do not want to get into politics.
“We will abide by the rules and regulations. We want to ensure a level playing field where all players can play freely,” he said while addressing a programme in the capital on organised on the occasion of handing over Sunday (January 19).
At the event, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) handed over laptops, scanners and other equipment for the voter list update process to the CEC.
The CEC said, “Historically, UNDP is a development partner of Bangladesh. When they met me in December, I asked for assistance in updating the voter list and the electoral process. I am overwhelmed that they provided assistance so quickly. They provided assistance with laptops, scanners, and cameras.”
“The voter list update activities will start from January 20. Today, they are providing several hundred laptops, scanners, and cameras. More of these will come in the future, God willing. Hopefully, they will provide assistance in the entire registration process,” he added.
The CEC said, “The UNDP’s need assessment team has come to assist in the national elections. The election process takes a lot of things. We are working to prepare an accurate voter list. For this, we are going to the field tomorrow to carry out the update process. I hope the doubts will be cleared.”
He also said, “We will try to complete the update process within six months. The voter growth rate is 1.55 percent. Some 65,000 people will work. We have taken the huge programme so that we can complete it within the specified time.”
