We have to obey HC order: BUET VC
Commenting on the High Court's order staying the decision of banning political activities in Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET), Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Satya Prasad Majumder has said we have to accept what the High Court has said.
He made the observation in response to the HC order while talking to reporters on Monday (April 1).
Majumder said, "We have to accept what the High Court orders. We cannot be accused of contempt of court. We have not yet received the High Court order. We will follow the legal process once we get the order.”
The HC today suspended the 'emergency notification' issued in 2019 banning all political organisations and their activities in BUET. Student politics was banned on the BUET campus in the face of protests by the general students after the tragic death of Abrar Farhad, a student of the university, who was brutally beaten to death by senior Chhatra League leaders and activists in 2019.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Md Khasruzzaman passed this order after the preliminary hearing of a writ petition.
BUET student Imtiaz Hossain Rahim filed the writ petition today regarding the legality of the 'emergency notification' issued by the BUET authorities on 11 October 2019. Imtiaz is a member of the central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Senior lawyer Shah Manzrul Haque represented the petitioner during the hearing while Deputy Attorney General Samarendra Nath Biswas and Assistant Attorney General Abul Kalam Khan Daud appeared for the state.
