Weak supply chains keep essential commodities' prices high: Commerce Advisor
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin said weak supply chains are keeping essential commodity prices high, but measures are underway to enhance supply.
He made these remarks on Wednesday (November 20) at the inauguration of TCB's potato sales program in Dhaka's Karwan Bazar.
The commerce advisor said, “Duties on some goods have been reduced, leading to slight price drops. The Consumer Rights Authority has been instructed to work more effectively to maintain supply.”
Sheikh Bashir Uddin assured that the government is aware of public hardships. He said, “Rice imports are already underway, and permission has been granted to import nearly 20 crore eggs. We are also making significant efforts regarding oil, with all parties collaborating in preparation for Ramadan.”
He further mentioned that Bangladesh does not have trade tensions with India, Pakistan, or China and will continue its liberal trade policy.
