Anwarul Haque Helal had been serving as the General Secretary of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) since 2015. However, it was suddenly announced last Sunday that he had stepped down from his position.

The reason for Helal's resignation remains unclear. However, in a statement to a reporter, he explained, "I am no longer in charge. I resigned due to personal reasons."

Although Helal cited personal reasons, another question surrounding his resignation from SAFF remains unanswered. Did Helal have any reluctance to continue in his role? Helal responded, "Actually, I had no reluctance. I was interested in the position." If he was interested, why did he suddenly leave SAFF? This has sparked some mystery. SAFF President and former BFF President Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin told this reporter, "He (Helal) is the best person to explain why he left SAFF. I have received his resignation letter, but I haven't opened it yet."

The General Secretary position at SAFF is a paid role. This year, Helal had renewed his contract, but he submitted his resignation letter on February 28 after a decade of successful service. It is speculated that the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) may appoint a new General Secretary for SAFF. Recently, Kazi Salahuddin held a meeting with AFC in Malaysia, where discussions about potential changes in SAFF were likely conducted.
