Why issuance of public notice over new party registration should not be declared illegal: HC
The High Court has issued a rule asking why the public notice for registration of new political parties issued by the Election Commission (EC) should not be declared illegal.
An HC bench of Justice Md. Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja passed the order on Tuesday (March 18) responding to a writ petition filed challenging the validity of the public notice.
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Election Commission Secretary and the head of the Electoral Reforms Commission, including the parties concerned, have been asked to respond to the rule.
Earlier on March 10, the Election Commission issued that public notice inviting applications for registration of new political parties.
Supreme Court lawyer Abeda Gulrukh filed the writ on behalf of Hasnat Qayyum, the chief coordinator of the State Reforms Movement and Supreme Court lawyer, with the relevant branch of the High Court on Sunday (March 16).
