Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of Bangladesh's interim government, has stated that he will return to his regular work after organizing the upcoming national parliamentary elections. He made these comments in an interview with the British magazine The Economist on Friday, December 20.

In the interview, Dr. Yunus reacted to Bangladesh's recent recognition by The Economist as the "Country of the Year" for the fall of a 15-year-long autocratic government. The magazine took the opportunity to ask him about his plans after the 2025 elections.

When asked about his future plans, Dr. Yunus said, "My job was essentially taken away from me. I was forcefully brought into this role. I was doing what I loved, which is why I was in Paris. I was pulled here to do something else. So, I would be happy to return to my regular work, the work I have done all my life, and that young people love. I will go back to the movement or cause that I have built around the world."

When questioned about the risk of extremism in Bangladesh, Dr. Yunus assured that Bangladesh would not see the rise of extremism. He emphasized that young people in the country are neutral about religion and are focused on building a new Bangladesh. "These young people can change the world. This is not just about one country or another. What Bangladesh has done is an example of how powerful young people can be," he stated.

He further added, "We should pay attention to them, especially the young women. They played a crucial role in the uprising in Bangladesh. We need to focus on young people, so they can achieve their dreams. They have the opportunity, and they are capable. Three young leaders from the uprising are now in my cabinet, and they are doing great work. They are capable. These young people are not like the youth of the last century. They are the youth of this century, and they are as capable as anyone else."
