Women's BPL to start in February
Women cricketers wanted a franchise tournament like the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). After taking over as BCB president, Faruque Ahmed said that the BPL for women will be organised after the boys’ BPL.
In continuation of this, BCB director Nazmul Abedin Fahim on Friday said that the women's BPL will start next February.
After winning the series against India in 2023, the BCB announced that the BPL will be organised for women. Now the women's BPL is seeing the light of day after almost a year and a half.
The tournament will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur with three teams. Duration of the tournament will be 8 to 9 days. There will be 7 matches in the three-team tournament.
Fahim said, "The board has been thinking for some time how we can take women's cricket forward. Keeping that in mind, there was a thought about whether a BPL for women could be held. Today, it has been decided that we will do that."
He added, "We hope this will take women's cricket another step forward.”
Sources said franchises Rangpur Riders and Fortune Barisal may be in the women's BPL.
