Writ over quota is still pending disposal; Agitation should not be staged: AG
Attorney General AM Amin Uddin has observed that students should not stage agitation over issue of freedom fighters' quota in public service as writ on the topic is still pending disposal.
He said this in a briefing at the Attorney General's office of the Supreme Court on Monday (July 8).
The Attorney General said that the state has appealed to the Appellate Division against the High Court's order to uphold the quota system.
"I think that they (students) should not stage protest right now to show respect to the court. I will tell them not to bring the matter which is pending in the court to the streets. In that case, I would request them to be patient. I do not know why they are doing the movement? I think it is better not to wage the movement."
He also said that this matter will be heard again in the Appellate Division next Thursday.
"We will file a CP (regular appeal) even if we get the full verdict on Wednesday," he added.
Students and job aspirants have been enforcing the “Bangla blockade” programme for the second consecutive day on Monday to press home their four-point demand, including reinstatement of the government circular issued in 2018 cancelling the quota system in government jobs.
As part of the movement, the demonstrators under the banner of “anti-discrimination student movement” laid siege to Shahbagh, Bangla Motor, Farmgate, Science Lab and Zero Point at Gulistan, some of the vital traffic intersections in the city, causing heavy congestions.
