Writers comes under attack while protesting scrapping of national holidays
A group of unidentified miscreants attacked writers who organized a protest rally against the government decision to cancel March 7 and August 15.
On Saturday (October 19) morning, poets, writers and journalists gathered in front of the National Press Club to participate in the program called by the Creative Writers Association. Later they left without protesting.
It was reported that some people were injured in the attack. Soumitra Dev, convener of the organizing body Creative Writers Association, was also injured.
He told the media workers present that it is not clear who attacked us. However, I think that those who do not want March 7 and August 15 are the ones who attacked and created the mayhem.
Soumitra Dev said, not having freedom of expression is a bad sign for a country. March 7 and August 15 are cherished by the people of this country. These days cannot be erased from people's hearts by some government decision or attack by miscreants.
