Hundreds of employees at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar staged a protest and work stoppage on Thursday, demanding the implementation of a structured pay scale and improved benefits.

The demonstration began at 8:00 AM and continued past 11:30 AM, as of the filing of this report.

According to the protesters, they are urging the hospital authorities to implement a salary structure aligned with the national pay scale. They also demanded additional benefits for those who served during critical periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic, dengue outbreaks, the Rana Plaza collapse, and anti-discrimination student movements.

Other key demands include timely payment of monthly salaries—specifically by the 5th of each month—and a 50% discount on medical expenses for employees' family members.

“We had previously staged a work stoppage over these same issues. At that time, we were promised that the demands would be met by July. However, nothing has been implemented, and our salaries remain unchanged,” said Smriti, an employee of the hospital.

Hospital Manager Shams Mohammad Enam responded, saying, “We have spoken with the employees and are addressing their concerns. The management acknowledges that many of their demands are valid and is working toward a resolution.”
