Enamul Molla, who announced to contest as independent candidate, held

Enamul Haque Molla, who announced to contest in the national polls as an independent candidate from Gazipur-3 constituency, has been arrested with weapons.

The joint forces have also arrested six of his associates. They are - Shawkat Mir, Zahidul Islam, Mostafa Kamal, Siddiqur Rahman, Bulbul and Tofazzal.

Enamul was arrested in a raid on his house in Barkul village of Sreepur upazila from 2:30 am to 5 am on Wednesday.

Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik said that based on intelligence information, the joint forces raided Enamul Haque Molla's house. He was arrested from there. Later, based on the information he provided, the joint forces raided different areas of Barmi Union and arrested six of his associates.

He said that 2 pistols, 3 magazines, 4 rounds of bullets, 4 walkie-talkies, 4 batons, 2 electric shock machines, a hammer nail gun and a knife were recovered from them. Preparations for filing a case are underway in this incident.

In this context, Ashraful Mollah, younger brother of Enamul Haque Mollah, said that Enamul Haque Mollah was framed in a planned manner for announcing his candidacy as an independent MP candidate from Gazipur-3 constituency.

BNP Executive Committee's Joint Health Secretary and BNP nominated candidate in Gazipur-3 constituency, Professor Dr. Rafiqul Islam Bachchu said: "Enamul Haque Mollah is an enlisted criminal. He was expelled from the BNP in 2001 for criminal activities. He fled the country after that."

Enamul Haque Mollah is the former general secretary of Sreepur Upazila's Barmi Union unit Chhatra Dal and the president of BNP's Mecca Misfalah unit in Saudi Arabia. Enamul Haque Mollah wanted party nomination. He covered the entire area with posters and banners. In the end, he did not get the nomination and announced his participation as an independent candidate.

Police said that Enamul Haque Mollah changed his name and migrated to Saudi Arabia in 2017 due to multiple cases. His name on his visa and passport is Abdullah Al Mamun. He returned home from Saudi Arabia after August 5, 2024.
