Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan has expressed concerns about the possible misuse of certain provisions in the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with protesting employees of the Bangladesh Secretariat Employees Unity Forum on Sunday, the adviser acknowledged that several clauses in the ordinance could be vulnerable to abuse. The meeting took place at the Secretariat, where employees submitted a memorandum demanding repeal of the ordinance.

“There are provisions that could potentially be misused. I will raise the issue in the advisory council,” said Fauzul Kabir.

While the forum called for complete withdrawal of the ordinance, the advisor urged them to also consider whether amendments and safeguards could address their concerns. “Repealing the ordinance is one approach. But you should also think about whether proper safeguards could make it acceptable,” he added.

Khan admitted there are flaws in the ordinance and assured the employees that their concerns would be communicated to the appropriate authorities. “We are fully aware of the shortcomings. I will convey your demand for repeal to the council,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining a professional working environment in government offices.

Among those present were Forum Co-Chairman Md. Nurul Islam, Co-Secretary General Md. Nazrul Islam, and other employee leaders.
