Engine failure halts train movement on Dhaka–Mymensingh route
Train operations on the Dhaka–Mymensingh route remain suspended after the engine of the Balaka commuter train broke down in Sreepur, Gazipur. The incident occurred at around 4:30pm on Saturday, December 6, in the Satkhamair area. Fuel and lubricant were seen leaking from the engine following the breakdown.
Passengers reported that the train, which had departed from Mymensingh after a stop at Kawraid station, suddenly produced a loud noise and slowed down. Lubricant spattered and landed on some passengers, prompting several people to get off the train in panic. Railway officials later arrived at the scene.
Md Shamim, station master of Sreepur railway station, said that rail communication between Dhaka and Mymensingh has been halted due to the engine breakdown. He stated that senior officials have been contacted to dispatch a replacement engine. Several trains have also been held at nearby stations, he added.
