Ensemble Theatre stages “I Can’t Breathe” at Shilpakala Academy

Mymensingh-based theatre troupe Ensemble Theatre staged its acclaimed production “I Can’t Breathe” at the National Theatre Studio Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Saturday (October 11).

The performance marked the seventh staging of the play.

Written and directed by Jewel Kabir, the play is based on Tamal Shekhar Dey’s shadow poetry and features a solo performance by Abul Monsur. Stage and costume design were by Ribon Khondaker, music by BM Tanvir Alam Sajib, lighting by Palok Islam, and makeup by Shubhshish Dutta Tanmoy, with Dr. Irene Parvin Lopa serving as art director.

Through symbolic expression, the play portrays the suffocating reality of social inequality, corruption, and human oppression, blending light, sound, and monologue to evoke a powerful sense of protest.

The troupe announced plans to stage the play across various district Shilpakala Academies in the coming months.
