EU delegation meets CEC
A six-member delegation from the European Union (EU), led by EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller, met with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Tuesday (August 19) as part of preparations for Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th parliamentary elections.
The meeting took place at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, beginning at 11 AM.
According to commission officials, discussions focused on an EU-funded project related to electoral support, as well as the Election Commission's preparations, strategic plans, and possible new initiatives ahead of the national polls.
The visit is part of the EU's ongoing engagement with stakeholders to assess the pre-election environment. The bloc is expected to send a pre-election observation mission in mid-September, Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed earlier.
The EU has been closely monitoring Bangladesh’s electoral process, and the current round of meetings signals the beginning of more structured international oversight ahead of the national elections.
