EU final report on 13th parliamentary election submitted to foreign ministry

Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) Ivars Ijabs formally handed over a copy of the mission's final report on Bangladesh's 13th National Parliamentary Election to the state minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, April 27.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has appreciated the European Union's continued engagement in supporting Bangladesh's democratic journey, including the deployment of the Election Observer Mission.

Shama Obaed highlighted the importance of continued cooperation with international partners to further strengthen democratic institutions and processes .

The final report is based on a long-term, independent observation of the electoral process across all 64 districts of Bangladesh and includes 19 recommendations aimed at reinforcing the integrity of future elections.

On Sunday, April 26, Ijabs met Speaker of Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad and presented the mission's final report and recommendations. He also discussed key recommendations with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin . The chief observer is scheduled to hold a press conference on Tuesday, April 28, at a city hotel to formally unveil the report.

The EU EOM has been present in Bangladesh since the end of 2025. On election day, February 12, the mission deployed 223 international observers drawn from all EU Member States, as well as Canada, Norway and Switzerland, across all 64 administrative districts.

The mission's preliminary statement, presented on February 14, described the 2026 parliamentary elections as "credible and competently managed, marking a pivotal step" towards restoring democratic governance and rule of law.
