EU hails ‘July Charter’ as milestone in Bangladesh’s political transition
The European Union (EU) has described the signing of the ‘July Charter’ as a major step forward for political unity and reform in Bangladesh.
EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller called the development a significant milestone in the country’s democratic transition.
In a Facebook post on Friday (October 17), Miller noted that the charter reflects broad consensus among political parties on fundamental reforms and advances preparations for the 2026 national elections.
The signing ceremony of the ‘July National Charter 2025’ saw participation from 25 political parties, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami. Miller’s presence underscored the EU’s continued support for democratic progress, good governance, and institutional accountability in Bangladesh.
The EU has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring free, fair, and inclusive elections, offering technical assistance and, if necessary, sending election observers to strengthen democratic practices and sustainable development in the country.
