EU wants free, fair and acceptable elections in Bangladesh
The European Union (EU) wants free, fair and acceptable elections of international standards in Bangladesh.
EU Ambassador in Bangladesh Michael Miller said this while holding a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin. A six-member EU delegation led by Miller met the CEC at the Election Commission building in Agargaon on Tuesday.
Miller said: "We expect the upcoming national elections to be free, fair and acceptable of international standards. Our expert observation team will arrive in Bangladesh in September."
The EU Ambassador said that the European Union will provide four million euros in support to the Election Commission for the upcoming elections.
Michael Miller said that Bangladesh is a priority for the EU in election observation. The EU will support democratic elections as the EU is always with democracy.
He also said that the EU will observe the elections in Bangladesh. "The EU wants to see international standard elections in Bangladesh. For this, it will work with the Election Commission and civil society to increase education, training and capacity building on elections. The EU will also work on disinformation, misinformation, and digital issues in elections."
