US Ambassador Brent Christensen to arrive Dhaka this evening

Brent Christensen, newly appointed United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, is arriving in Dhaka this Monday evening. Diplomatic sources said officials from the US Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will receive the new ambassador at the airport.

Sources also said Christensen will formally begin his Dhaka mission later this week by presenting his credentials. Over the next two days, he will meet Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam and Chief of the Protocol Division Nurul Islam to prepare for the presentation of credentials. He is scheduled to present his credentials to President Md Shahabuddin on Thursday (15 January).

Earlier, on January 9 (Friday), newly appointed US Ambassador Brent Christensen took the oath of office at the US Department of State. US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Michael J. Rigas administered the oath. Following the ceremony, the US Embassy in Dhaka extended a welcome to Christensen.

Nominated by the Donald Trump administration, Christensen will serve as the 18th United States Ambassador to Bangladesh. According to information on the US Department of State’s website, Brent Christensen is a senior officer in the US Foreign Service and has previously worked at the US Embassy in Dhaka.

The immediate past US Ambassador to Bangladesh was Peter Haas, who served as the 17th ambassador. He was posted in Dhaka from March 2022 to April 2024.
