Constitutional reforms to be decided by student-people: Home adviser

Home affairs adviser AF Hasan Arif on Sunday said the student-led demonstrators, who toppled Awami League tyrants last month, would decide how to reform the constitution, and when to hold the next general elections.

He was speaking with reporters after an executive committee meeting held on controlling mosquito-borne diseases at Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.

Yunus breaks down recalling student martyrs
Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus became emotional and was visibly moved to tears while discussing the casualties during the student-led revolution at a meeting with the leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement marking one month of the interim government’s tenure.

This meeting took place at the chief adviser’s official office, Shapla, from 11am to 1:30pm on Sunday.

110,000 Bangladeshi workers unable to travel to Italy despite receiving work permits
Despite the Italian government issuing 110,000 work permits for Bangladeshi migrant workers, the visa processing center at the Italian Embassy or VFS GLOBAL ITALY has remained inactive for an extended period, preventing migrants from traveling to Italy. Consequently, the Bangladesh Migration Development Forum (BMDF) and the Bangladesh Expatriate Development Association urge Bangladesh's Interim Government Chief Advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, to initiate discussions regarding the future of these 110,000 workers awaiting immigration to Italy.

Expatriate human rights advocates made this appeal during a press conference held at DRU on Sunday.

DU likely to resume classes from September 22
Dhaka University (DU) has scheduled September 22 as the likely date for the resumption of academic activities following a long suspension due to student protests.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the university’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan on Sunday.

Stern action against communal unrest during Durga puja: Adviser

Amid concerns of possible unrest during Durga puja, Bangladesh’s interim government on Sunday warned potential troublemakers, pledging tough action against those disrupting communal harmony or targeting places of worship during the Hindu festival.

“If anyone disrupts or harasses people at worship halls, we will not spare them. We will bring them under the law and ensure peace,” Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain said on Sunday during a visit to the Prematli Gaurang Bari Kalimandir in Godagari Upazila, Rajshahi.

National Citizens' Committee unveiled
A new platform titled "National Citizens'Committee" led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement was unveiled on Sunday afternoon.

Nasir Uddin Patwari has been made convener while Akhter Hossain has been made member secretary of the students' political party National Citizen Committee.

The party made its debut through a press conference at the central Shaheed Minar on Sunday. The name of the convening committee was revealed by Syeda Akhter, sister of Ahnaf Abir Ashrafullah, a talented student of Department of Electric and Electronic Engineering of Manarat University who died in the quota movement.

168 lower court judges transferred in major reshuffle
A total of 168 judges, including additional district judges, joint district judges, senior assistant judges, and assistant judges, have been transferred.

The Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification regarding this matter on Sunday (September 8).

10 banks on brink of bankruptcy: Governor
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Ahsan H Mansur said that at least 10 banks are on the verge of bankruptcy. He came up with the remark during a press conference held at Bangladesh Bank on Sunday (September 8). The central bank is implementing measures to prevent their collapse, including providing technical, advisory, and liquidity support. Efforts are focused on protecting customer interests and preventing any bank closures.

1 dead, 463 hospitalized in Dengue over 24 hrs
One dengue patient has died and 463 others have been admitted to hospitals across the country during the last 24 hours.

A survey conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the information.

The latest figures reveal that 193 dengue patients were hospitalized in Dhaka city, while 270 were admitted to hospitals outside the capital.

Microbus-Autorickshaw collision claims 6 lives in Sirajganj
Six people were killed in a collision between a microbus and a CNG-run autorickshaw in Kamarkhand upazila in Sirajganj district on Sunday.

Rezaul Karim, Officer-in-Charge of Kamarkhand Police Station, confirmed the matter.

The deceased were autorickshaw driver Rashedul Islam,22 of Raiganj upazila, two sons of Ramnaj Ali of Tarash upazila’s Vatra village-Nuruzzaman, 52 and Tareq Rahman,55, two brothers-Rezaul Karim,60 and Abdul Majid,50, of the same village and Jahangir Alam,56, son of late Mohiuddin of the same village.
