The Chief Advisor and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said that to make the sacrifices of the fighters of the people's uprising meaningful and to fulfill their dreams, everyone must work together and make every effort.

He said, "We pledge that we will not dishonor the sacrifices of the fighters of the people's uprising. The reason for their sacrifices should be remembered by every future generation, and by honoring their sacrifices, we will all work together to make every effort to ensure that we can fulfill their dream."

He made these remarks during the inaugural speech at the first meeting of the Consensus Commission with political parties, held on Saturday (February 15) afternoon at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in the capital.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said, "If they had not made this sacrifice, even though many might have had questions in their minds, we would not have had any opportunity to seek answers. The questions that we had in our minds for many years, we never had the chance to address them. We have gained this opportunity as a result of the self-sacrifice of countless students and the public."

He said, "Six months of the interim government have passed, and the first chapter is over. With today's event, we have entered the second phase. The first phase was the preparation phase. Many of the things from that preparation phase are known to you. One major aspect of it was preparation—making the dream for which the students and the public sacrificed a reality, so that we can build a country that will function in an orderly manner. Through the legal and institutional framework that allowed the authoritarian government to gain power, we must find a way to move beyond it in a different form."

He said, "We make laws even for a simple game of 'hadu-du' (a traditional game). Football, which is an international game, also has its laws, and we follow those laws. Because we follow the laws, the game remains enjoyable and not a mockery. The laws are made in such a way that everyone can enjoy. But we have turned our country into a mockery. There are no laws, no rules. Those who have sacrificed are giving us the message that we should change those laws and prepare for a new Bangladesh."
