The government has received evidence of a 'terrible cyber conspiracy' in the Internet Service Providing (ISP) sector, said Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

He made claim in a post on his verified Facebook account on Friday (October 31).

He wrote that the government and BTRC have received credible evidence that some organizations in the country's Internet Service Providing (ISP) sector are trying to destroy the networks and businesses of rival ISPs through DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks organized from abroad.

He also wrote: "We have received the names of the responsible organizations. Punitive measures are coming against the owners of companies involved in criminal activities, they will not get a chance in the new licensing process. Their current licenses may also be canceled."

At this time, he brought up the issue of massive arrears of many ISP companies that are in the process of renewing licenses and transferring shares. He warned: "Those who have purchased bandwidth from government or private companies and have shifted to other ITCs or IIGs without paying, their licenses will not be renewed."

In the context of serious financial crimes, he wrote, in addition, some companies closely related to the former government have committed check bouncing fraud by issuing fake checks to government institutions in the name of crores of taka in the name of their creditors (such as Amara Network). "Preparations are underway to file legal action and cases against these serious financial crimes. No license will be renewed if the arrears remain unpaid."

Requesting all ISP companies in the country, he wrote: "Quickly install anti-DDoS setup and load-balancer. Make appropriate investments in network security." Stop targeted unfair behavior to stop or limit competition.

The special assistant to the chief adviser warned against hiding the names of DDoS attackers by saying they are your acquaintances or brothers. He said, rather, the victims should come together and file a case, if you file a case, the government will be able to provide institutional support to curb the crime. BTRC will catch illegal attackers, and you will also invest enough to secure your infrastructure.

Faiz Ahmed said that by working together, Bangladesh's internet service sector will be more orderly and secure.
