Ex Kurigram DC granted bail in journalist assault case
The High Court has granted six months’ bail to Sultana Parvin, the former Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kurigram, who was in prison over allegations of assaulting journalist Ariful Islam Regan at night, under the pretext of a mobile court.
The order was issued on Tuesday (September 9) by a High Court bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Yusuf Abdullah Sumon.
Senior lawyers Zainul Abedin, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, and others represented Sultana Parvin during the hearing. Advocate Ishrat Hasan appeared for journalist Ariful Islam Regan, while Deputy Attorney General Sultana Akter Ruby represented the state.
Earlier, on Monday (September 8), the High Court had scheduled the hearing for the bail petition of DC Sultana Parvin.
It is worth noting that on September 2, the Kurigram District and Sessions Judge, Mosammat Ismat Ara, had rejected Sultana Parvin’s bail petition and ordered her to be sent to prison.
