Sitangshu Kumar (SK) Sur, the former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank, was arrested on Tuesday (January 14). He was detained by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with assistance from the Detective Police.

An ACC source confirmed the matter to the media.

On December 23, the ACC filed a case against SK Sur, his wife Suporna Sur Chowdhury, and their daughter Nandita Sur Chowdhury for failing to submit their asset declarations on time. They have been charged under Section 26(2) of the ACC Act 2004 for not providing their asset details.

In August 2023, the ACC issued letters to banks and financial institutions to gather information about the financial transactions of this family.

The investigation into SK Sur and others started after the financial scam involving former NRB Global Bank Managing Director Prashant Kumar Halder (PK Halder) came to light in 2022.

On March 29 of the same year, SK Sur was questioned regarding the embezzlement of more than 2,500 crore taka from International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL).
