Shamim Ahmed, a former organizing secretary of the Chhatra League at Jahangirnagar University, was reportedly beaten to death by a group of students.

Shamim Ahmed, also known as Shamim Molla, was a former student in the History Department from the university's 39th batch. On Wednesday, he was attacked by a mob and died hours later after being taken to the hospital.

Ashulia police station Office-in-Charge Abu Bakr Siddique confirmed the matter.

The former Chhatra League leader was accused of taking part in an attack on students during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at the vice chancellor's residence on the night of July 15.

Witnesses and university security said Shamim was at a shop near JU’s Prantik Gate around 5.00 pm. When a group of university students learned where he was, they went there and attacked him.

Later, the university's proctorial team came to the scene. With help from security staff, they took Shamim to the university's security office. Then, they handed him over to the proctor, who sent him to the Ashulia police.

Dr. Selimuzzaman Sujan, a doctor at Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Hospital in Savar, said that when Shamim was brought to the hospital at night, the doctors checked him and found that he had already died.
