Ex-Bogura MP Shariful Islam Jinnah arrested in Dhaka
Shariful Islam Jinnah, a three-time former member of parliament from Bogura-2 (Shibganj) constituency and district president of the Jatiya Party, has been arrested by the District Detective Branch (DB).
He was apprehended from the capital's Ramna area in the early Friday (March 27), confirmed Iqbal Bahar, officer-in-charge of the Bogura District Detective Branch (DB).
According to police, Jinnah had been on the run for an extended period and is accused in multiple cases, including a murder case filed during the anti-discrimination student movement. Acting on a tip-off, a special team of the DB from Bogura carried out a raid in the Ramna area under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and arrested him.
Law enforcement sources said a total of 10 cases are currently pending against him, including charges under the Explosives Act and a murder case filed with Shibganj Police Station in Bogura. Additional charges under various sections of the penal code have also been brought against him.
OC Iqbal Bahar said the arrest was carried out in Dhaka based on intelligence information. "Jinnah will be produced before a court after completion of necessary legal procedures."
Police added that the vice chairman of the Jatiya Party’s central committee is being processed for production before the court in connection with the cases.
