Ex-CEC ATM Shamsul Huda no more
Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda has passed away. He breathed his last at his residence in capital's Gulshan at 9:00am on Saturday (July 5). He was 83 years old at the time of his death.
His body is currently at United Hospital in the capital. According to family sources, Shamsul Huda's janaza will be held after his daughter returns from the United States. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
ATM Shamsul Huda served as the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh from February 5, 2007, to February 5, 2012. During his tenure, he played a key role in maintaining the independence and effectiveness of the Election Commission during a period of political crisis.
He joined the Pakistan Civil Service in 1966 and later joined the Bangladesh Civil Service after the country’s independence. He retired from government service in 2000.
The former top bureaucrat also served as the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) in Bagerhat, Secretary of the Water Resources and Finance Ministries, and earlier as the Managing Director of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Bank.
