Ex-CEC Nurul Huda put on 4-day remand
Dhaka Court has granted a four-day remand for former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) K.M. Nurul Huda, who was arrested in connection with a case filed at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station. The case alleges that Nurul Huda exerted undue influence to manipulate election results.
Nurul Huda was produced before the court on Monday, June 23, around 3 PM, and was subsequently placed in the custody of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka.
Earlier, the investigating officer of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, Sub-Inspector Shamsuzzoha Sarkar, requested a 10-day remand to ensure a thorough investigation. The public prosecutor from the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court supported the remand request. After hearing both sides, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman approved the four-day remand.
The case was filed on Sunday, June 22, by BNP National Executive Committee member Md. Salahuddin Khan. It accuses former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three former Chief Election Commissioners, including Nurul Huda, of irregularities and rigging in three national elections held during the Awami League government. In total, 24 individuals have been named as accused in the case.
