Ex-flight lieutenant Tahsif Souri’s body recovered from Turag a day after disappearance
River police have recovered the body of retired Bangladesh Air Force Flight Lieutenant K M Tahsif Sauri from the Turag River in the capital’s Uttarkhan area.
His body was recovered at around 4:30 pm on Wednesday (28 October) and later sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Abdullah Al Mamun, superintendent of police of the River Police’s Dhaka region, gave the information on Thursday (29 October) morning.
He said police went to the scene on Wednesday after receiving a report through the national emergency helpline 999, and the body was then recovered from the river. A relative of Tahsif Sauri was informed, and the body was sent to the hospital for an autopsy.
Police said the cause of his death could not be determined immediately. Details may be known once the autopsy report is received. After legal formalities, the body will be handed over to his family.
Meanwhile, after news of his death spread, discussion about him has begun on social media. Several posts claim that Tahsif was the one who filmed the widely circulated video of Sheikh Hasina boarding an aircraft when she left the country on 5 August 2024. The River Police have not confirmed the claim.
No firm information has emerged so far on whether his death is connected in any way to the filming or release of that video. Police have also not officially disclosed any details about the cause of his death or the circumstances surrounding it.
