Detectives arrested former Gazipur-5 Member of Parliament Akhtaruzzaman during a raid in the capital's Gulshan area on Wednesday night (August 5). According to the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), a DB team conducted an operation at a residence in Gulshan at around 10:00pm,l and arrested the former lawmaker. DMP's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Niaz Mehedi said Akhtaruzzaman was arrested on allegations of involvement in the activities of a banned organisation. He is also accused in multiple cases, including murder. Police said legal proceedings against the former MP are currently underway.

রাজধানী ঢাকার গুলশান এলাকা থেকে গাজীপুর-৫ আসনের সাবেক সংসদ সদস্য ও আখতারুজ্জামানকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে ঢাকা মহানগর গোয়েন্দা পুলিশ (ডিবি)। বুধবার (৫ আগস্ট) রাত ১০টার দিকে গুলশানের একটি আবাসিক ভবনে অভিযান চালিয়ে তাঁকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। ডিএমপির অতিরিক্ত উপ-পুলিশ কমিশনার (মিডিয়া) নিয়াজ মেহেদী জানান, নিষিদ্ধ ঘোষিত একটি সংগঠনের সাম্প্রতিক বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ড ও তৎপরতায় যুক্ত থাকার অভিযোগে আখতারুজ্জামানকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে। এছাড়া তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে হত্যা মামলাসহ একাধিক ফৌজদারি মামলা রয়েছে। ডিবি পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, গ্রেপ্তারকৃত সাবেক এই আওয়ামী লীগ নেতার বিরুদ্ধে আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের প্রক্রিয়া বর্তমানে চলমান রয়েছে।
