The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 23 individuals, including former Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman and economist Abul Barkat, on charges of embezzling Tk 297 crore. The case was filed at the ACC's Dhaka Integrated District Office on Thursday (February 20). A senior ACC official confirmed this, stating, "Further details would be provided soon". According to the case statement, the embezzlement took place through Anontex Company using funds from Janata Bank. Atiur Rahman and his associates used various unethical methods to embezzle the money. However, the ACC's 2022 investigation into loan irregularities had not found sufficient evidence at the time.

২৯৭ কোটি টাকা আত্মসাতের অভিযোগে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের সাবেক গভর্নর আতিউর রহমান এবং অর্থনীতিবিদ আবুল বারকাতসহ ২৩ জনের বিরুদ্ধে মামলা দায়ের করেছে দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশন (দুদক)। বৃহস্পতিবার (২০ ফেব্রুয়ারি) দুদকের ঢাকা সমন্বিত জেলা কার্যালয়ে মামলাটি দায়ের করা হয়েছে। দুদকের একজন ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তা এ তথ্য নিশ্চিত করেছেন। কমিশন এ বিষয়ে শীঘ্রই বিস্তারিত জানাবে বলে তিনি জানিয়েছেন। মামলার নথি থেকে জানা যায়, অ্যাননটেক্স কোম্পানির নামে জনতা ব্যাংক থেকে ওই টাকা আত্মসাতের অভিযোগে মামলাটি দায়ের করা হয়েছে। মামলার এজাহারে বলা হয়েছে, আতিউর রহমান ও তার সহযোগীরা বিভিন্ন অনৈতিক উপায়ে ওই অর্থ আত্মসাৎ করেছেন। তবে ২০২২ সালে ঋণ অনিয়ম নিয়ে দুদকের তদন্তে পর্যাপ্ত প্রমাণ না পাওয়ায় তখন মামলার কার্যক্রম বন্ধ হয়ে গিয়েছিল।
