Ex-JCD leader hacked to death in Bogura

A former Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader was hacked to death by assailants in Bogura's Sadar upazila early Thursday (July 23).

The victim, Atikur Rahman Sagar Mondal, 27, came under attack at his residence in Chalitabari village around 2:30am. Following the attcak, he was rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Sagar, son of Shahadat Mondal of Pachbariya village, had been living with his wife in neighbouring Chalitabari. He previously served as the convener of the local union unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

According to family members and local residents, a group of 20 to 25 armed attackers stormed Sagar's house in the dead of night and repeatedly hacked him with sharp weapons. He attempted to flee but collapsed on the road after sustaining critical injuries.

Police said preliminary findings suggest the murder was linked to previous enmity. Several of the victim's cousins have been accused of involvement in the attack.

Bogura Sadar Police Station Investigation Inspector Mahfuz Alam said one woman had been detained for questioning as part of the investigation, while efforts were underway to identify and arrest all those responsible.

Police added that a manhunt is continuing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
