Ex-justice Manik out of danger, says hospital officials
Former Justice Manik who is under treatment at Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet is now out of danger. Doctors said that his physical condition has improved after the testicle surgery. However, although he is out of danger, he is under the observation of the medical board.
Confirming the matter Osmani Medical College Hospital Deputy Director Soumitra Chakraborty said on Wednesday September that former Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik has high blood pressure, heart problems and diabetes. His physical condition is towards improvement. He has been kept under medical board observation. She said that no decision has been taken so far regarding the transfer of this former judge to Dhaka. A decision will be made later if the patient's condition improves. Earlier, on August 23, he was attacked while being escorted to court on Saturday (August 24) afternoon after being detained at Dana border in Kanighat, Sylhet.
At that time, the angry crowd threw eggs and shoes at him in the court premises. At one point, he was seriously injured when the angry mob attacked him. The court ordered him to be sent to jail. After reaching the jail, former Justice Manik's physical condition deteriorated and he was admitted to the Osmani Hospital in Sylhet due to bleeding in the testicles. According to Osmani Hospital authorities, the retired justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, was transferred to cabin number 13 of ward number 10 on the third floor of the hospital on August 27. He is being treated there. His physical condition is much better now.
Sources also informed that 3 prison guards and Ansar members of Osmani Medical are on guard during the treatment of this former judge. It is to be noted that former justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik has been accused in the case of killing of garment worker Rubel in Dhaka's Adabar police station area during the students' movement. Apart from this, a case was filed against him at the Kanighat police station in Sylhet on August 25 for attempting to enter India illegally.
