Ex-Justice Shamsul Huda Manik passes away

Former Appellate Division Justice (Retd.) Shamsul Huda Manik passed away at the age of 82 at Ibrahim Memorial Cardiac Hospital in Dhaka at 11:30pm on Sunday, due to old age (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun).

His first namaz-e-janaza was held on Monday (May 26), at the premises of the Joharbad Gopalganj Court Mosque. The second janaza took place after Asr at the grounds of Rabeya Khatun Hafizia Madrasa. He was later buried with state honours at his family graveyard in Gimadanga village, Tungipara, following a final farewell by family and relatives.

Justice Manik left two daughters, a son, and numerous admirers to mourn his loss. His death has plunged Tungipara upazila and the nation's judiciary into mourning.

A veteran of the 1971 Liberation War, Justice Manik was an active organiser during the war. He served as President and General Secretary of the Gopalganj District Awami League in the 1980s and was later appointed Chairman of the Gopalganj District Council.

He was appointed a High Court judge in 1996 when the Awami League formed government. After retiring from the Appellate Division, he served as Chairman of the Labour Appellate Tribunal.
