Ex-Minister Dipu Moni shown arrested in fresh case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday (July 16) officially showed former Social Welfare Minister Dr Dipu Moni arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly amassing illegal wealth.

Acting Judge Md Ibrahim Miah of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court passed the order after police produced Dr. Dipu Moni and sought permission to show her arrested in the ACC case. She was later sent back to jail, confirmed ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir.

The ACC filed the case on February 11, 2025, accusing her of amassing Tk 5.92 crore in illegal wealth and making suspicious transactions totaling Tk 59.79 crore through 28 bank accounts.

Dr. Dipu Moni was arrested earlier on August 19, 2024, in connection with other cases filed at different police stations. This latest development adds to the legal challenges now facing the former minister.
