Ex-Mirpur Ward Commissioner Murad Hossain dies in custody

Former Mirpur Ward Commissioner and Awami League leader Murad Hossain, 65, died while in custody on Tuesday (November 18).


He was declared dead at 4:20pm after being taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s emergency unit.


Prison officials said Murad fell ill in Kashimpur Central Jail, after which guards transferred him via Dhaka Central Jail (Keraniganj) to DMCH.

Doctors confirmed he had died before arrival.


Inspector Md Faruk said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.


Murad, son of Amjad Hossain Sikder, was a former commissioner of Mirpur Ward 12 and an Awami League leader. He had been in custody facing three pending murder cases.
