Ex-MP Jakob placed on 3-day remand
A Dhaka court has placed former Bhola-4 MP Abdullah Al Jakob on a three-day remand in connection with the shooting death of Shamim Howladar in the Rupnagar area of the capital.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Imran Ahmed issued the order on Wednesday after Sub-Inspector Mamun Mia of Rupnagar police station sought a 10-day remand.
The defence lawyer filed a bail application, which was opposed by the state. Following the hearing, the court granted the three-day remand.
Jakob was arrested by the metropolitan police from Gulshan on October 1. On the same day, he was remanded for seven days in an attempted murder case.
The case stems from an incident during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on July 20, when Shamim Howladar was shot in the Rupnagar area. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Shamim’s cousin, Samrat Howladar, later filed a murder case naming Jakob as accused number 122.
