Ex-MP Ramesh Chandra Sen passes away during custody

Former Water Resources Minister and Thakurgaon-1 MP Ramesh Chandra Sen passed away while in custody at Dinajpur District Jail on Saturday (February 7). He was 83.

According to officials, Sen fell ill in the morning and was rushed to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors in the emergency department declared him dead at 9:29am.

Jail authorities said his condition worsened before reaching the hospital.

Sen had been arrested on August 16, 2025, by Thakurgaon police and transferred to Dinajpur Jail the next day. He was in custody in connection with three cases, including a murder case.

Born on April 30, 1940, in Ruhia Union, Thakurgaon Sadar, Sen completed his education at Carmichael College, Rangpur. He was elected to parliament five times and most recently in 2024 under the Awami League ticket. He also served as a presidium member of the Awami League.

Dinajpur Jail officials confirmed that his body will be handed over to his family following legal formalities.
