Ex-MP Tahura Ali, mother of actress Shaon, passes away

Actress and filmmaker Meher Afroz Shaon’s mother, former member of parliament from Jamalpur and chairman of Citizen Cables Limited, Begum Tahura Ali, passed away early Thursday (October 23).

She died at 6:11am while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka, according to Citizen Cables’ Facebook page.

Her daughter, actress and singer Meher Afroz Shaon, confirmed the news on Facebook, writing, “With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Begum Tahura Ali. May Almighty Allah forgive her, grant her Jannatul Ferdous, and give us all strength and patience to bear this loss.”

Shaon said her mother’s funeral prayers will be held at two locations: after Asr at Gulshan Azad Mosque and after Maghrib at Tejgaon Rahim Metal Central Mosque.

Tahura Ali served as a reserved seat MP from Jamalpur for two terms, from 1996 to 2001 and 2009 to 2014.
