Ex-Munshiganj MP Mohiuddin Ahmed passes away
Former lawmaker from Munshiganj-1 and senior Bangladesh Awami League leader Mohiuddin Ahmed passed away. He was 75.
He died around 6:00pm on Tuesday evening (March 10), while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka.
According to family members, Ahmed had been receiving treatment in Dhaka after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
Ahmed is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. His wife, Sanjida Akter, currently serves as chairman of the Malkhanagar Union Parishad in Sirajdikhan upazila. The family’s ancestral home is in Kazirbag village under the same union.
Funeral arrangements are being prepared in Kazirbag village, where he is expected to be laid to rest on Wednesday.
Following his death, his son Anisur Rahman — a member of the Bangladesh Awami Jubo League — wrote on social media asking people to forgive his father’s mistakes and remember him in prayers.
During his political career, Mohiuddin Ahmed was active in local politics in Sirajdikhan for decades. He was elected chairman of the Malkhanagar Union Parishad five times and chairman of the Sirajdikhan Upazila Parishad three times before being elected to parliament from the Munshiganj-1 constituency in 2024.
At the time of his death, he was serving as president of the Sirajdikhan Upazila unit of the Awami League.
After the 2024 mass uprising that toppled the Awami League government, Ahmed left the area as multiple cases were filed against him over alleged attacks on protesters.
