Ex-NCC councillor, his son detained
Former Narayanganj City Corporation Councillor Motiur Rahman, 55, and his son Moshiur Rahman, 29, were detained in Dhaka early on Monday.
They are accused in several cases in Narayanganj over attacks on protesters and killings during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Sujon Hoque, inspector of Vatara Police Station, said they were detained from a flat in Bashundhara Residential Area around 2:00am.
"As there are multiple cases against them in Narayanganj, they will be brought here after being shown arrested in those cases," said Abdullah Al Masud, additional superintendent of Narayanganj district police.
Motiur Rahman is also the president of Jubo League's Siddhirganj unit in Narayanganj and was a close associate of former lawmaker Shamim Osman.
Earlier, he was imprisoned in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over the acquisition of illegal wealth and money laundering in 2023. His wife, Rokeya Rahman, was also accused in another ACC case.
