Ex-Panchagarh MP Mukta sent to jail in rickshaw puller murder case
A Panchagarh court on Tuesday (October 6) sent former Panchagarh-1 lawmaker Naimuzzaman Bhuiyan Mukta to jail in a case filed over the alleged disappearance and killing of rickshaw puller Al Amin.
Mukta was arrested from his home in the Kazipara area of Panchagarh Sadar early Tuesday following a tip-off, police said.
He was later produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, where Judge Mosharraf Hossain ordered that he be sent to jail.
According to the case statement, Al Amin went missing after taking part in the mass uprising in Panchagarh on August 5, 2024. His father, Monu Mia, filed a case with Panchagarh Sadar Police Station on September 10, accusing 19 people, including Mukta, and 150 unidentified individuals of involvement in his alleged disappearance and killing.
Panchagarh Sadar Police Inspector (Investigation) Ashish Kumar Sheel confirmed Mukta’s arrest and said he was sent to jail after being produced before the court.
Police said Mukta faces a total of 12 cases, including the case over Al Amin’s alleged disappearance and killing and cases related to vandalism and arson at a BNP office.
Mukta was elected to Parliament from Panchagarh-1 in the 2024 national election on an Awami League ticket, according to local reports.
