Expatriate youth's body found hanging from tree in Kishoreganj

An expatriate worker was found hanging from a tree near his home with his hands, feet and mouth tied in Bhairab of Kishoreganj, on Tuesday morning (September 29).

The deceased, Rokon Uddin, 25, son of Sattar Mia, was found in a tree near his home in East Noyahati village of Kalikaprasad Union.

Police recovered the body after being informed by locals.

Rokon had returned to home about a month and a half ago after spending nearly three years in Singapore. He was unmarried.

Family members said they spotted his body hanging from the tree beside their home in the morning. His hands, feet and mouth were tied.

His father said he had been outside the house on Monday night to operate an irrigation pump, while Rokon’s mother Hanufa Begum and elder brother were at home.

According to the family, Rokon left his room around 1am. They assumed he had gone outside to make a phone call. They could not say whether he returned to his room afterward.

Rokon’s mother said his mobile phone was found near the body, but there was no SIM card in it. The family said they had no idea who might have killed him or why.

Neighbours said Rokon had been behaving normally since returning from Singapore. He was also planning to travel to Cox’s Bazar by train with friends on Tuesday night.

Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station, said, "No visible injury marks were found on the body."

However, he said the circumstances could not rule out homicide.

“He may have been killed and then hung from the tree with his hands and feet tied, or he may have been killed after being tied and hung there,” the officer said, adding that police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
