Enamul Haque Shakib, the expelled joint convener of the anti-discrimination student movement, was arrested by army personnel in Habiganj on Sunday night (July 6).

Shakib was apprehended around 9:00pm near the Kibria Bridge area of the city. He is currently being held at the police station, and legal proceedings are underway, AKM Shahabuddin Shaheen, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station said.

Shakib is the prime accused in a violent assault case involving Ahmed Reza Hasan Mahdi, the movement's member secretary, and four other activists. The incident occurred on May 9, when Mahdi and his companions were attacked and seriously injured while returning from a protest calling for a ban on the ruling Awami League.

Mahdi later filed a case naming Shakib as the main perpetrator. Two of Shakib's associates have already been arrested in connection with the attack.

Prior to the incident, Shakib had been expelled from the anti-discrimination student movement on May 6 for "anti-disciplinary activities and involvement in violence," according to organizational sources.
