Explosion at expatriate's house in Madaripur, one held

An explosion with a loud bang occurred at a house in Madaripur Sadar upazila early on Friday, September 4. The blast blew off the wall of a tin-shed room and injured at least two people. Police have arrested a man named Salauddin Gazi in connection with the incident.

The incident took place at the house of Rajjak Molla, an expatriate in Italy, in West Peyarpur village under Peyarpur union of Sadar upazila.

Police and locals said a sudden explosion occurred in a room at the back of the house early in the morning, damaging the room's wall and spreading panic in the surrounding area. Police arrived at the scene and arrested Salauddin Gazi, a cousin of Rajjak Molla. Evidence of the explosion was collected from the spot.

Salauddin Gazi is the son of Mafez Gazi of Madhya Peyarpur village in Sadar upazila.

Police suspect the explosion may have occurred while making cocktails or hand bombs in that room. Multiple law enforcement teams are working to identify and arrest others involved.

Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad said police visited the spot after receiving information. Multiple teams are working to arrest those involved. The arrested Salauddin Gazi has been sent to court. It is suspected that the explosion occurred while making cocktails.

He also said the injured have not yet been admitted to government hospitals out of fear of arrest.
