Explosion at gas cylinder shop in Chattogram leaves 10 burnt

Ten workers sustained burn injuries in an explosion at a gas cylinder shop in a market in Chandanaish, Chattogram, on Wednesday (September 17) morning. The incident occurred around 8am.

The injured have been identified as shop owner Mahbubur Rahman,45, Md Saurav Rahman,25, Mohammad Kofil,22, Mohammad Riaz,17, Mohammad Yunus,26, Mohammad Akib,17, Md Harun,29, Mohammad Idris,30, Mohammad Liton,28, and Mohammad Saleh,33. Among them, the condition of three to four workers is reported to be critical.

According to the injured workers, gas cylinders were being unloaded at Mahbubur Rahman’s shop in Vailtoli Yunus Market under Chandanaish Police Station in Chattogram district. At that time, a worker lit a cigarette, which suddenly ignited a fire and caused a cylinder to explode. As a result, 10 workers suffered burn injuries.

Mohammad Alauddin, In-Charge of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost, said the victims were rescued and taken to the hospital’s emergency department, where on-duty doctors referred them to Ward 36 of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit. They are currently undergoing treatment there.
