Explosion at gas plant of filling station in Bogura, at least 5 injured
At least five persons including drivers of CNG-run autorickshaws have been injured in an explosion at the gas plant of a filling station in Bogura city. Several autorickshaws that came to take gas have been damaged in this incident. Alongside various installations of the filling station have also been damaged.
This accident occurred at Atithi Filling Station in Tinmatha area of the Dhaka-Bogura highway of the city at noon on Saturday (September 19).
Eyewitnesses and local sources said a sudden loud explosion occurred inside the gas plant of the filling station at noon. At that time several CNG-run autorickshaws were taking gas. After the explosion fire spread and several persons including autorickshaw drivers were injured.
Due to the intensity of the explosion the canopy of the filling station was torn apart. Security wall, tank and various installations were damaged. After getting the news Fire Service workers went to the spot and brought the fire under control.
The injured were rescued and sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (Shajimec) Hospital.
Station in-charge of Bogura Fire Service Shahidul Islam said it is initially assumed that the explosion occurred due to excess pressure in the meter. Although this is a medium-type accident the filling station has been considerably damaged. Investigation is on to determine the actual cause of the accident and the amount of damage.
He further said Fire Service workers found two injured persons after going to the spot. He has learnt that three-four more persons were sent to hospital locally before that.
