Former President and Awami League leader Abdul Hamid has been named in a lawsuit for the first time in connection with the killings during the July-August 2024 uprising.

The case, filed on Tuesday with the Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station, also charges Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, labeling them as the 'masterminds' behind the state-supported killings of protesters.

The plaintiff, 27-year-old Tahmul Islam Mazharul, son of Abu Taher Bhuiyan from the North Latibabad area of Kishoreganj Sadar, has filed the case accusing him of ordering mass killings.

Tahmul Islam stated that he is a BNP activist and was injured during the student-led uprising. After receiving treatment for a long period, he has partially recovered and decided to file the case.

Abdullah Al Mamun, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station, said, "We will conduct an investigation into the matter and take necessary legal action."

Md Jalal Uddin, the Public Prosecutor (PP) of Kishoreganj, said, "There is no legal barrier to filing a case against the former president. Anyone can file a case if they wish."
